Samsung has announced new security software for its 2016 line-up of Smart TVs running on the Tizen operating system.
The new GAIA platform is described as a “powerful and comprehensive three-layer security solution.”
According to Samsung (via Engadget) it’ll offer protection across all of the key areas of the ecosystem, including the services, software and hardware.
The GAIA software will protect user’s credit card and password information using a virtual data input mechanism shown on a TV.
There’s also what’s known as a Secure Zone, which Samsung describe as a “virtual barrier that creates as secure space and protects the core service operations.”
There’s also a host of anti-malware detection tools which makes the system far less vulnerable to would-be hackers. Finally, Samsung is dividing the Tizen OS into two parts, which are both secured individually.
Overall, the GAIA tool is similar to what Samsung has done with the KNOX security platform on its smartphone range.
Yesterday, Samsung announced all of its 2016 Tizen sets will also add the SmartThings smart home platform, which the company bought in 2014. This will enable users to control a host of smart home appliances from their television sets.
Samsung has promised to show off the televisions at CES 2015 next week.
